No One Eats Alone Day® Celebrated Nationwide

More than a million students celebrated belonging and inclusion during national No One Eats Alone® Day.

On February 17, thousands of schools across the country celebrated No One Eats Alone® Day. For 12 years in a row, educators and student leaders organized lunchtime activities provided by Beyond Differences to inspire connection and make new friends. These icebreakers are intended to end social isolation during lunchtime, and allow students to discover commonalities between one another.

Over 100 schools in Miami-Dade County participated in No One Eats Alone Day, thanks to a partnership with the district’s Office of Educational, Equity, Access and Diversity. The district worked with the amazing educators and administrators at Madison Middle School to create a No One Eats Alone Day celebration that they will never forget. It included an assembly with Miami Dolphins Quarterback Skylar Thompson, who shared his own experiences with social isolation with the students. He was joined by Dolphins cheerleaders, DJ Tight, and Alba Alvarado, our national programs coordinator, who reinforced the message of inclusion and belonging.

Across town in Miami Beach, School Board Member Lucia Baez-Geller joined in on the No One Eats Alone Day activities organized by the students of Miami Beach Nautilus Middle School. The City of Miami Beach and the Youth Commission demonstrated their commitment to ending social isolation and building a culture of belonging by passing a resolution to declare February 17, 2023, National No One Eats Alone Day in Miami Beach.

Beyond Differences representatives also ventured to The Bronx and Sacramento, witnessing the amazing efforts of educators and students at Emolior Academy and Ethel Phillips Elementary School, respectively. Student leaders facilitated No One Eats Alone activities, including the Recipe for Empathy art project and NOEA BINGO to help students initiate conversations, get to know each other, and build connection among their classmates.

Schools receive all No One Eats Alone activities and middle school curriculum free of charge. The lessons focus on understanding social isolation and developing empathy. No One Eats Alone is sponsored by Centene Charitable Foundation.
