Get Involved!
The newest addition to Beyond Differences’ regional programs, San Mateo County in Northern California encompasses an exceptionally diverse population. The Superintendent of San Mateo County and the broader community has embraced Beyond Differences with open arms.
We are looking for motivated San Mateo 7th and 8th-grade students to join our Beyond Differences’ Middle School Leadership Program! Beyond Differences empowers middle school students to become leaders and activists.

Opportunities
- Attend retreats
- Learn social-emotional skills
- Training on public speaking and leadership
- Training on how to be an upstander
- Be mentored by high school students
- Meet other middle school leaders
- Be part of a national organization working to end social isolation

Commitments
Leadership students are required to participate in the following:
- Attend and lead all Beyond Differences meetings at your school
- Participate in both Beyond Differences retreats
- Plan and lead the following National Days at your school:
- Know Your Classmates, October 2019
- No One Eats Alone, February 2020
- Be Kind Online, May 2020
Interested 7th or 8th graders are encouraged to start their own Beyond Differences club and apply by finding a teacher on campus to be the Faculty Advisor and then get ready to have some fun!

Turn in BOTH the application and the parent permission slip, either electronically to davidtarpinian@beyonddifferences.org, or in person to the Beyond Differences Faculty Advisor at your school.
