True to our mission of infusing youth voice in everything we do, this curriculum has been created by our National Teen Board for middle school students grades 5th – 8th.

Please enjoy and use as much as you can.

Queer Visibility

Help your students take pride in their identities all year long with our Featured Curriculum: Queer Visibility. Students learn about queer history and LGBTQIA+ artists, and the origins and impacts of common microaggressions against the LGBTQIA+ community. Students will also learn how to advocate for equitable and inclusive policies in their schools in order to create a culture of belonging.

Special thanks to the Queer Visibility Committee of our National Teen Board: Matteo, Sophia, Mikaila, Gaby, Emily, Jack, Paarth, Rei, Meggie, Azariah, Helen, and Sofie.

Redefining Disability Event

Nearly 1 in 10 youth ages 13-17 in the United States are part of the LGBTQIA+ community and in 2023 alone the ACLU is tracking over 475 anti-LGBTQ bills in the US legislature.

Research from The Trevor Project shows that despite the tremendous impact social isolation is having on queer youth, 60% of LGBTQ youth who wanted mental health care were not able to get it. But having one supportive adult in their life reduces the risk of suicide for LGBTQIA+ youth by 40% so we urge you to create a culture of belonging and implement this curriculum today!

Our Queer Visibility curriculum includes:

  • History of the modern Pride movement
  • Common microaggressions against the LGBTQIA+ community and how to handle them
  • Be a policy maker – how to work with schools to create an inclusive community for queer youth
  • Art Project lesson featuring LGBTQIA+ artists across the ages

Meet the National Teen Board Members who Created our Featured Curriculum:

Due to the current political climate facing the LGBTQIA+ community across the country not all of the students who contributed to the Queer Visibility curriculum are safe to be named here.
