Professional Development Program Manager

Full Time Position (non-exempt, hourly) 

August 2021

Beyond Differences’ mission is to inspire students to end social isolation and create a culture of belonging for everyone. Founded in 2010, Beyond Differences is the leading expert and only organization in the United States singularly focused on ending social isolation and creating a culture of inclusion for youth. Beyond Differences is student-led and committed to empowering youth to become activists by helping them build awareness and leadership skills related to acceptance and belonging. We provide schools’ Transformative SEL curriculum to help end social isolation, loneliness and build community. Our newest (and growing) program area is Professional Development for Educators to support their own, and in turn their students, social-emotional needs and mental health and wellness.

Position Overview 

The Professional Development Program Manager is responsible for assisting the Director of Education Programs in managing the day-to-day operations of our growing Beyond Differences National Innovative Educator Cohorts for 5th-8th grade educators focused on mental health and wellness rooted in Social Emotional Learning practice. The Professional Development Program Manager will support the delivery of a Professional Development program that wraps around the school year for six cohorts nationwide. This position is currently funded through June 2022.

Professional Development Cohort Coordinator & Admin Support (80%)
● General support of all the educators, teachers, and contractors involved in our program, prior, during, and after our cohorts meet.
● Coordinate workshop offerings by scheduling workshops, tracking invites, & sending reminders. ● Advertise workshop offerings – drafting emails, send out using YAMM (yet another mail merge), use Canva to make flyers, create & maintain a Google Site for each educator cohort.
● Attend/host the Zoom meeting- schedule and send out Zoom links, set up break out rooms, support participants during session, – after meeting, edit video using Youtube editing.
● Responsibilities related to Salesforce or Google Sheets database regarding participating schools & educators. ● PD Program data monitoring, tracking and creating reports for summarizing.
● Monitor teacher needs, provide resources, and implement support strategies as needed. ● Coordinate logistics for guest speakers and workshop co-facilitators (mental health practitioners). ● Support and possibly execute Educator Workshops online and in person (during the sessions, when applicable). ● Collaborate with the Director of Education Programs to co-create session content.

Educator Outreach & Support (20%)

Preferred Qualifications
● Design and oversee implementation of teacher outreach strategy.
● Design and oversee implementation of the teacher enrollment process.
● Help to develop new district/school partnerships and collaborate with existing partners.
Preferred Qualifications
● Bachelor’s Degree or higher, with an emphasis in education, counseling or program administration ● Coordination/event planning experience
● Supervisory experience and/or consulting experience overseeing large projects
● Bilingual in Spanish/English speaker
● National nonprofit experience
● Social media knowledge

Essential Qualifications
● Former classroom teaching experience (with MS/HS age)
● Minimum 3 years of experience working with students (preferably 5th-8th grade) either in-school or afterschool ● Minimum 3 years leadership experience running a program- preferably with the design & launch of a new program
● Dynamic personality – good presenter/ facilitator – comfort and ease with youth and adults ● Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, while thinking strategically and creatively focusing on results
● Experience working with diverse student and adult populations- AA/Black, Latino/Hispanic, low-income and immigrant communities.
● Knowledge of youth development and educational programs (in school and/or afterschool) ● Ability to work with and network with teachers/school administrators and familiarity with school environments ● Strong leadership and program management skills
● High competency using Microsoft Office, presentation software (e.g., Zoom & Google Slides), marketing applications (e.g., Google Sites, Canva, etc.) and data tracking systems (e.g., Salesforce & Survey Monkey)

Work Environment
● Must be able to work remotely and/or in an office environment.
● Must be able to to function with minimal supervision, follow directions, and manage stressful situations effectively
● Must be able to manually operate and use a computer and phone.
● Must be able to work at a computer for prolonged periods of time.
● May involve travel, access to a vehicle may be required.
● Must have access to a strong Wi-Fi network.

Compensation & Benefits
Beyond Differences provides a competitive compensation and benefits package. Benefits include full health insurance, paid vacation, holiday and sick time as well as access to a 403(b)-retirement plan. This position has a competitive salary of $52,000 based on a non-exempt, hourly salary 32 hours per week. Workweek is flexible and can be negotiated upon acceptance of position.

Grant Writer Consultant

Our newest (and growing) program areas are 1.  Professional Development for Educators, this program is geared towards supporting educators, who in-turn support their students social-emotional needs and mental health & wellness. 2. Expansion from three regional teen boards to a national teen board of 70+ teens – thus expanding our youth leadership programming.

Position Overview & Qualifications
The Grant Writer is responsible for preparing and writing grant proposals that are aligned with our strategic plan, mission, and vision. We seek someone who has deep expertise in both program design and impact grant-writing. A strong designer and writer is expected to know what their needs are, lead the process, craft the working document and call on people for specific asks or input.

The right person will need to:

  • By talking to department heads – stay informed and current re. programs, initiatives, developments, and staff need
  • Strategize with key leadership staff to align asks with funders interests and focus, craft narrative structure, and argument to position proposals for success
  • Share grant opportunities you come across- prospect for new foundations (private, family & corporate) whose mission aligns with ours
  • Identify and clarify opportunities and needs of BD and match to grant guidelines and requests for proposal (RFPs), and
  • Meet proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and transmittal
  • Write, revise, and edit drafts including executive summaries, needs statements, conclusions, and organization credentials.
  • Improve proposal writing results by evaluating and updating processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate.
  • Have the ability to move projects forward by collaborating with Beyond Differences leadership and staff to manage the lifecycle of each grant (including grant reporting on program impact and results).

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher, with an emphasis in English, Journalism, Media, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in grant writing and prospect research
  • Experience writing grants for nonprofits
  • Knowledge of youth development and educational programs (in school and/or afterschool)
  • Deadline-oriented
