FIRE: Foster Immigrant & Refugee Empowerment
Our FIRE curriculum was created by Beyond Differences’ National Teen Board members who are immigrant and refugee youth with first-hand knowledge of these struggles. Each of the lessons and activities focus on real-world strategies that help nurture a sense of belonging.
Did you know that 1 in 4 schoolchildren in the United States identifies as a refugee or immigrant? They have to overcome not only language barriers but cultural and social barriers that often make it difficult to create community and connection within their new home.
Our FIRE curriculum includes:
- History of Immigrants & Refugees in America
- Common Microaggressions against immigrants and refugees and how to handle them
- Be a policy maker – how to work with schools to create an inclusive community for refugees and immigrants
- Art Project writing letters connecting students to ancestors and future generations.
